How to take measurements

Why are proper Measurements so important?

Good measurements are important not only for a model to fit into clothing pulled for jobs, but it also insures good relationships and trust between our partner agencies. If your measurements are listed but not accurate, it could mean showing up for a shoot only to get sent home when the clothes don’t fit. This would also mean that as a model, you are not upholding your responsibilities to maintain good measurements, which can reflect poorly on both you and your mother agency. Being a model can definitely be enjoyable, but it also is a job and this responsibility is to be taken seriously.

How to measure yourself?

You will need:

  • A Bikini or Non-Padded Bra and underwear

  • A tape measure that is specifically used for sewing and that you can wrap around yourself In order to get accurate measurements, it’s best to have someone to do the measuring for you

HEIGHT: While this one is rather straightforward, there are a couple things to remember. Height, in this case, refers to your height barefoot.  Measure yourself against a wall with no shoes on.

BUST: The trick here is that in modeling, your bust measurement is not always the same as the number on your bra. For a proper measurement, you will want to wear a supportive, non-padded bra or bikini top. You want to measure at the fullest part of your bust. For example, you may be a 32C but have closer to a 35-inch bust. You should also note while taking any measurement, the tape should not be pushing into any part of the body. The tape should fall flush against the body/fabric.

WAIST: When most people think of waist, they think of the size on jeans or where their pants sit. For modeling measurements, you want to measure around the smallest part of your waist. For you, this might mean at your belly button or an inch or two above it. Just look in the mirror, see where your stomach goes in most, and measure there.

HIPS: for your modeling measurements you do not want to measure around your hipbone. Instead, measure around the largest/widest part of your hips and bottom.
